Black Day
Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) has declared 14 October 2025 as a Black Day to demonstrate to the government the gravity of the prevailing issues and to emphasize that continued trade union actions will follow if these issues remain unresolved. As a sister union of FUTA, the TAEU has decided to adhere to FUTA's decision in solidarity to safeguard and advance our rights. The primary objectives of this trade union action are to urge the government to take immediate and concrete measures to address the following critical matters:
- Rectifying the long-standing salary anomaly.
- Reinstating the 20% special academic allowance.
- Ensuring timely and adequate recruitment of lecturers.
- Restoring facilities and entitlements of academics that existed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Revising outdated fees and payments still governed by circulars issued over a decade ago.
- Addressing the school admission issue affecting children of academics.
- Improving infrastructure facilities in universities to meet present and future needs.
- Establishing a transparent and acceptable mechanism to implement education reforms
